The piano

Earstep renders notes, intervals, chords and scales from these samples, retunes them to equal temperament, mixes them to mono, normalizes their loudness and encodes them as AAC.
Every clip is generated by a script from the samples and checked note by note against the app’s theory tables. The same clips play in the app and on this website.

Every theory fact in Earstep is checked against these sources:
- Open Music Theory: Intervals: Interval qualities and sizes in semitones.
- Open Music Theory: Triads: Major, minor, diminished and augmented triads.
- Open Music Theory: Seventh Chords: The five common seventh-chord qualities.
- Interval (music): Interval names and semitone counts.
- Seventh chord: Seventh chords, including the minor major seventh.
- Mode (music): The seven modes and their step patterns.
- Minor scale: Natural, harmonic and melodic minor.
- Pentatonic scale: Major and minor pentatonic scales.
- Blues scale: The six-note blues scale.
- Scientific pitch notation: Note names with octaves; A4 = 440 Hz.
- Solfège: Movable-do syllables, including chromatic ones.
- Salamander Grand Piano: The sampled piano every sound is rendered from.
